While at the 2008 Annual IMN Conference in Chicago, I had the pleasure of attending the Consultant's Workshop, led by Chris Gamibill of the Center for Congregational Health, here's a link: www.healthychurch.org/calendar.asp
Last year the IMN and the Center began offering a joint certificate program for Consulting entitled, "Church Consultant and Facilitator Training." It's a one-week residential program, followed by six months of long distance learning fieldwork, designed for transitional ministers who are interested in being certified as Consultants to congregations managing change and transformational processes, whether during settled or interim times.
The course offerings are diverse, including everything from identifying and developing your gifts for guiding and coaching congregational systems to the nuts and bolts of getting "work" and tracking your financial concerns.
Because of the high caliber of the transitional pastors in SEPA, rich as we are in training, a high commitment to continuing education, and experience, AND because many of us have been acting in the capacity of consultants, AND because we've identified "taking transition ministry on the road" as one of our three top goals for the next five years, I've followed up with Chris about the possibility of sponsoring an on-site event in the Spring of 2009 for transitional pastors in SEPA who would be interested in this training and certification process. Chris and the Center are excited about this possibility and have offered us a proposal that we are reviewing.
We would need a minimum of 10 participants, we would meet locally, and we would secure the best possible negotiated rate, which will, with the cost of field work included, be approximately $1200.00. During the five-day lab we would work in the evenings so we're talking about whether this would be a residential experience, which would add additional costs.
I'm excited about this opportunity for all of the reasons listed above, and especially because I think it would add another level of credentialing and credibility to our consulting ministries with the congregations of SEPA and the larger church.
If you think you might be interested or for more information contact me at PastorViki@aol.com.
